Dennis Hobson Promotions, along with Queensberry Promotions, have reiterated that the International Boxing Federation (IBF) have sanctioned world bantamweight champion Stuart Hall’s voluntary defence against Paul Butler and that the pair will contest the world title at Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena on June 7.
“This terrific contest has been approved,” explained promoter Hobson. “Despite some social media sites, and other boxing promoters, trying to muddy the waters. We’ve worked hard behind the scenes and this genuine, 50-50 world title fight, along with a cracking undercard, will be taking place as planned.
“The atmosphere at the Arena when Stuart boxed Martin Ward in March was incredible, and this will be another amazing occasion. Tickets are going really well for the show, we’ve already sold in the thousands, and we’re expecting another full house and a memorable occasion.
“I genuinely believe that Hall against Butler will go down as a British classic. There is no love lost between the pair, and their styles should gel to make a ‘fight of the year’. The North East is an untapped area for boxing and we’re doing some fantastic work up there. The winner of this fight will ultimately go on to box mandatory fighter Randy Caballero in what will be another terrific fight.
“Dennis Hobson Promotions worked hard, and professionally, to get Stuart his world title shot, and we’ve done the same with this Butler defence. We’d also like to thank Frank Warren and Queensberry Promotions for their continued support.”
The undercard for the show features: Birtley’s British cruiserweight champion Jon-Lewis Dickinson; Sunderland’s English lightweight champion Kirk Goodings; Guisborough’s Josh Leather; Sedgefield’s Bradley Saunders; County Durham’s Thomas Patrick Ward; Doncaster’s Dave Allen and Jason Cunningham; Sunderland’s Jordan King; and Wales’ Rhys Evans.
