langford-sheedyDennis Hobson believes the postponement of Sam Sheedy’s British middleweight title challenge against Tommy Langford will work in his favour.
Sheffield’s Sheedy and Birmingham’s Langford were due to compete for the vacant belt at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena on October 22.  However, injuries to WBO world middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders and British light-middleweight king Liam Williams – both set to feature on the card – means the show has been rescheduled for November 26.
‘Speedy’ Sheedy’s proposed shot at the title came with just three weeks notice, after champion Chris Eubank Jr unexpectedly vacated the crown.  Now with an extra month to prepare, Hobson says the delay means Sam enters the contest on a level playing-field.
“It’s always disappointing for a fighter when a show is put back because they are getting mentally focused and prepared for that date, but these things happen in professional boxing.  I’m still very positive about it and it’s not the end of the world.  I was looking forward to having another champion on October 22, but we’ll just have to wait a little longer to get a British champion.
“Sam will have longer to prepare now, although he’s a fit kid anyway.  It was at short notice previously, so this maybe does help us a bit more.  When someone’s fighting for a title, it’s a big mental thing to step up.  Sam will stay mentally strong though, and the extra four weeks preparation can’t but help him.
“Liam Cameron fights Zac Dunn for the Commonwealth super-middleweight title on November 25th in Australia, and Sam fights the day after.  Both are away from home and usually I like my fighters to fight on home soil when they’re fighting for titles, but there have been plenty of British fighters who have travelled away and done the business.  I’m confident we’ve got two kids with the ability to pull off the wins and come away with significant belts.”
