Sam Kynoch (pictured with Dean Sutherland) has played a huge part in keeping Scottish small hall boxing alive over recent years.
Often out of the spotlight unless a star breaks through; boxing North of the Border has in recent times been buoyed by the success of Ricky Burns and Josh Taylor but, still too often, can get overlooked.
A former decent amateur fighter himself, Kynoch has since gone on to embrace the roles of boxing manager and promoter. The head of Kynoch Boxing now has over 40 fighters on his books, and has put on shows the length and breadth of Caledonia.
Well connected, amiable and determined to do the best for his stable, Sam – who also practices law – recently joined up with Dennis Hobson’s Fight Academy outfit, with the aim of working together on the careers of three top unbeaten prospects, Dean Sutherland, Billy Stuart and Calvin McCord.
Here, Kynoch chats about Scottish boxing past and present, outlines his ambitions for his trio of fighters, and talks about teaming up with Hobson…
