Undefeated Scottish featherweight Nathaniel Collins has signed a long-term fight deal with Dennis Hobson’s Fight Academy, as he looks to push on with his perfect start to life as a professional boxer.
After racking up five victories in quick succession in the pro ranks, in 2019 Collins blitzed through fellow undefeated countryman, Monty Ogilvie, with a fifth round TKO win to claim the Celtic Featherweight Title in just his sixth outing.
Another victory at the beginning of 2020 moved the Beardsley-Brawler to 7-0 (2) before the pandemic halted proceedings. Despite the obvious frustrations, Collins has remained upbeat all the way through, finding positives from a negative situation.
“It gave me a chance to do different things away from boxing.” admitted Collins. “I’ve been keeping fit in different ways, like cross fit and swimming. It’s been good to mix things up and keep things interesting, but it was nice to be back to the gym, punching each others heads in!
“The lack of fights has been a negative, but hopefully we’re at the back end of that now and can get back to it.”
Under the guidance of trainer Joe Ham Sr and manager Sam Kynoch, Fight Academy gives the 24-year-old the opportunity to continue his boxing journey live on Fightzone; and Collins has set his targets high.
“I’ve always had my eye set on the world title, but sometimes you don’t have to go the British title route to get to world titles. If a British title shot comes up for me on the way to world level I will take it, but I will take the route which is best for me.
“This is the biggest opportunity in my boxing career thus far. I know that I’m a talent, I went to the commonwealth games and have done a lot of good stuff in boxing. I put the work in and won the Celtic Title in 2019, so I’ve done my entry into the pro’s and can move onto the next level, and it’s a big opportunity for me to do that live on Fightzone.
“The more people who get involved with Fightzone, the better it is for boxing, so they can see the talent on show in the small halls who do not get the exposure that they should.
“Boxing fans can expect excitement when they see me fight. Non-stop excitement! I’m not here to pad my record. I showed in my fight for the Celtic [Title] – when someone comes to fight, I knock them out, and that is what I plan on continuing to do.”
