Liam Shinkwin wants to know if he can still mix it with the ‘youngsters’ … and he gets the opportunity to find out when he meets Hamed Ghaz in an English Lightweight Title eliminator on Friday June 25, live on Fightzone.
Turning pro in 2008, the 35-year-old became Southern Area Champion in 2013 before disappearing from the sport for six years and resurfacing again in 2019. A former star amateur who won ABA and Junior Olympics honours, the Watford man, 9-1-1, says he is back enjoying boxing and looking forward to fighting ‘away from home’ at the Sheffield Fightzone Arena against undefeated Hamed.
Ghaz, 16-0 (3), from nearby Bradford will have the bulk of the support on the night. The 25-year-old box-fighter believes he is a match for any of the UK’s best lightweights and says Shinkwin is the perfect opponent for him to shine against.
With just days to go until the contest, Liam talks more about his boxing break, his ambitions for the Lonsdale Belt, and why there is no pressure on him as he heads into his first ever headline slot.
