Calvin McCord makes a welcome return to the ring on Friday March 11 at Aberdeen’s Beach Ballroom with a LIVE slot on Fightzone.
The 25-year-old hasn’t boxed since June last year after some frustrating injury issues but one of the most promising fighters in Scotland is now back in full swing.
An outstanding amateur, the fighter from Ayr had 110 amateur fights, fought in five British Championships winning silver medals in each tournament and won a bronze medal in the International Tammer Tournament in Finland.
A pro since 2017, under the guidance of experienced fight manager Sam Kynoch, McCord has raced to 9-0 (2) and picked up the Scottish Lightweight Title in just his sixth fight.

First started boxing? I first started boxing because my big brother boxed and it was just the younger brother wanting to follow in his footsteps.
Favourite all-time fighter? My favourite fighter of all time I think is Nigel Benn.
What’s the hardest thing about being a pro fighter (so far)? I think the hardest thing about being a pro fighter for myself at the minute is still working full time. I would love to be able to put my full focus on my boxing.
What weight do you see yourself winning belts at? I see myself competing and winning belts in the lightweight division.
Which current British fighters are impressing you the most? I think what Josh Taylor has done is exceptional.
Name one UK fighter you would like to face in 2022? I don’t really set myself someone to fight, I’m just happy to face who my team decides.
Your favourite meal? Steak pie or fajitas are up there with my favourite meals.
Favourite film? Favourite film is The Hangover.
Which actor would you choose to play you in a movie about your life? I think I would choose tom hardy to play me in a movie.
Favourite city? I don’t really have a favourite city, love my hometown of Ayr.
Your job outside of boxing (if you have one)? I’m an electrician by trade.
Your boxing ambitions? What do you want to achieve in the sport? I want to push myself to get as far in the sport as possible – I believe I can go pretty far.
Who is your biggest inspiration? Tyson Fury is a massive inspiration to come back from what he’s been through is fantastic.
What is the first thing you’d buy if you won the lottery? First thing I’d buy if I won the lottery would be a nice fast car.
Where do you see yourself in five years’ time? Hopefully with a few belts around my waist!
What is the meaning of life? The meaning of life to me is just making the most of it that I can. I want to achieve as much as possible as soon as possible because you never know when it’s all going to be over.
